The Basement: Where Music Meets Rexburg

There are so many creative people here in Rexburg, and yet, it seems like there aren't many avenues for people to express their creativity. That's where The Basement comes into play.

The Basement is a special place. Literally underneath a complex of business suites, The Basement has been a testament of strength for the people it caters to. Being forced out of their old location due to COVID and increasing rental prices, the venue fell into uncertain times. Thanks to many fundraisers and help from the local community, The Basement is now a fixture in the Eastern Idaho music scene.

Featuring musicians and bands hailing from as far as Seattle, Washington and as close as two minutes from the venue, The Basement gives visitors a unique experience. A close-quarters combat-esque setting, where you will definitely sweat and touch elbows with those next to you, it isn't for the brave of heart. Being a safe-haven for punk rock and Midwestern grunge-style music, you are bound to find a forever friend here at The Basement.

George Dibble, a student at BYU-Idaho, has very fond memories of The Basement. Dibble relates how he found his best friends, stating "I not only recommend these shows as an enjoyment factor, but also to expand your social circles. I met my best friends at a free open mic at the basement. Shortly after that, I stumbled into some of the coolest people I know at a (Basement) show. Most all of my day-to-day interactions are with people that I met through this beautiful music scene."

Giving the students this space of creative expression is something that can make Rexburg a truly sought after destination. So many big artists have come to Rexburg in the past, like Scotty McCreery and David Archuleta, but isn't it time that it becomes a touring destination for the bands students actually want to see?

It is fully run and supported by the community. The Basement lets it's visitors paint and decorate their walls. There is a wall where you can sign your name, becoming a permanent fixture into the history of this venue. It is a wonderful tradition and gesture that can truly make a nervous college freshman's whole experience.
