Five Reasons You Should Visit Superlame Vintage in Rexburg, Idaho

Five Reasons You Should

Visit Superlame Vintage

in Rexburg Idaho Today!

I don't know about y'all, but I have a lot of old clothes taking up precious space in my closet.

Old Hawaiian shirts or sports jerseys for when that team was "sure to win the championship," there is a market for anything in this day and age. We have seen the overnight sensation that thrift shops became after Macklemore made his song all about finding a fur coat for a steal. Goodwill and Deseret Industries (also known as DI) are two of the more common thrift/vintage stores in the United States.

Here in Rexburg, there are several offerings for those wanting to itch that "thrifting fever," but today we will focus on one in particular: Superlame Vintage.

Walking in, you are greeted with full size cardboard cutouts of the 1992 Summer Olympics Mens Basketball "dream team" and numerous 80s and 90s movie and music posters. Racks packed full of colorful t-shirts and weathered denim jeans surround you. Walk to the back of the store and there you will find Ernie, the store's owner and the man who made curated vintage clothing a market in Rexburg.

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit and chat around with some patrons browsing the clothing racks, along with the store's wonderful owner, about what made Superlame Vintage the place to go in Rexburg. Without further ado, I present you:

The top five reasons you should visit Superlame Vintage today!

1. A constantly changing selection of curated vintage clothing for everyone!

I'm a bigger guy. I wear XXL, and sometimes it's hard to find any cool shirts or jackets at the local thrift shops. Ernie has managed to find something for everyone who comes into his store. Jeans up to a 42? Absolutely. Shirts down to XS? You betcha.

Ernie has his feelers in almost every source he can find in order to ensure you get what you are looking for. Taking weekly trips to Boise and Salt lake allows him to swap things out, making for an ever-changing store that is new every time you walk in. I spoke with some of the patrons who said this was their second time visiting that week, and they bought something on each visit. If you love the thrill of hunting for a new article of clothing, then Superlame is the place for you!

2. An influence in the local art and music scene

Superlame has become somewhat of a "safe haven" for aspiring musicians and artists, allowing people's art prints and cassette tapes to be sold to the public. This has given the young college population an outlet for their emotions and passions.

Ernie mentioned that they will often hold events at the location, such as art shows and small concerts, which helps both the performers and visitors feel "home." This has helped Superlame garner a sort of refuge reputation. Visitors turn into family as they sit on the couch in the corner and play Nintendo. This is a safe place.

3. A company that gives back to the community it is in

Rexburg is a special place on Planet Earth, one full of love and charity. Superlame decided once it started holding events to give back to its local community. After most events held, Superlame will donate a percent of its sales to local charities, the most recent being a donation to the Family Crisis Center.

A believer in karma, Ernie believes that what you put in is what you will get out. Good vibes given are good vibes returned. Every client is offered to be a part of Superlame's Instagram community, so people can keep track of what is going on in the community, along with new ways for them to continue contributing to the local scene.

4. It feels like home

Feeling like a member of the family is an important part of Superlame's identity. Everyone who enters is asked what their name is, and if they need help finding anything. Speaking with his customers, Ernie always asks what brings people in, what they're doing that day, etc. When I walked in for the first time, I felt like I had just met a long-lost brother. I truly felt like I was at home.

Superlame will have weekly events, aside from music and art shows, in order to further their place in the community. Video game tournaments and playing card game nights are commonplace here at Superlame. A new customer is a new friend, and vice versa.

5. It helps the environment!

One can look into their closet and see all the clothes that they don't wear. It is sad how you buy a shirt for one event, just to hang it up in a dark closet and forget about it. Why not buy a shirt that is just a few decades old? It has lasted this long, it is stylish, it is already broken in, and trust assured, no one else will have it at the function.

We can see the impact that fast fashion has had on our lives. Companies like Shein and H&M have placed a monopoly on people's closets, provided cheap clothes that are trendy. While these may seem like a great short-term solution to needing an outfit, the effect of making 100,000 shirts just for 80,000 of them to end their lives in a landfill is awfully sad and terribly for the environment.
